Vintage galvanized water tank with lid and spout
Vintage Galvanized Water Tank with Lid and Spout – Rustic Wall-Mounted Farmhouse Container
In the past, when running water was not yet inside the house, wall-mounted water containers were everyday helpers in country kitchens. In my grandmother’s kitchen, there was a cupboard with a sink, built by my grandfather. A small cast-iron water tank was fixed high on the wall of the cupboard so that the spout would be at a comfortable hand level. Clean water was poured in from the top, and by lifting the spout with your hand, the water began to flow. At the bottom of the cupboard, hidden behind a door, stood a bucket to catch the used water – it had to be emptied from time to time.
This galvanized tank served the same purpose: a straight back resting against the wall, a curved front, and a half-round lid without hinges – the lid had to be lifted off entirely to refill the water. Decades have left their mark on the tank – rust, oxidation, and patina giving it a unique character.
Today, when tap water is available in every kitchen, this tank can find a new life outdoors or on a veranda – filled with flowers and greenery, used as a hand-rinse after gardening, or simply kept as a rustic decorative piece that tells the story of the past and the wisdom of old homes.
Rustic vintage condition – the water spout beneath shows a slight tilt from age, adding character.
