Vintage wire broadcasting speaker “Riga”
Vintage Wire Broadcasting Speaker “Riga” – Carbolite “Krapp” Radio with Single Channel On/Off Knob
In the decades before television reached local homes, the steady voice of the “krapp” — as people fondly called it — was a familiar sound. This round wire broadcasting speaker brought news, music, and state announcements into kitchens and living rooms, all through a single channel. The knob served just one purpose: to turn the sound on or off. Made at the Riga Electromechanical Factory between 1946–1966, it carries the charm of an era when families gathered to listen together. Its carbolite body, with cream-colored lattice front, bears the marks of time, but still holds the quiet echo of voices long past.
